Happy St. Pat. Day!

I hope this day finds you all well and good!  Last Wednesday we met at Sugar Shane's restuarant in Augusta.  Those attending were:  David Corbin, Trudy Jacobson, Diana and Jerry Lawson, Mike and Judy Cyphers, Karen Moore, Bill Daigh, Bill and Lynda Johson, Don and Letha Huddleston, and Tom Palmer.  Good folks and good food is what we had.  Thanks for the great turn-out.

Next month, we will travel back to Leon for that great pizza at Lovees's.  That will be Wednesday April 8, at 11:30 AM.  We hope to see you all there.  This is one of our favorite places.

Louise was unable to attend our lunch last week, due to the passing of her brother.  Our hearts go out to Louise and her family  Keep them in your prayers and send Louise a card.  I know she will appreciate your encouragement at this time.

Speaking of encouragement, please remember Don and Letha Huddleston in your thoughts and prayers.  They are in turmoil, having their son, Chad and his family residing in Japan, diagnosed with cancer that is inoperable.  Our hearts hurt for these wonderful and lovely people.  Please pray and remember their heartaches.  Don and Letha

will be traveling to Japan soon!  God Bless You Guys!

Just to let you guys know that this website gets from 350-400 hits per day.  That is 11-12,000 per month!... i.e.. it's very popular and lot's of folks are keeping up with us.

Let me know about what's happening in your lives.  I will be hapy to publish your news.

Thanks,

Tommy

We will meet this Wednesday, March 11, at 11:30 AM at Sugar Shanes in Augusta.  Hope to see you all there.  Good food and good folks are always expected at our monthly "Just Lunches."

Please continue prayers for Chad Huddleston, son of Don and Letha Huddleston.  Chad is in Japan as a minister with his family and has been diagnosed with a type of gastric cancer, which will require chemo treatments. Being in Japan, not like our U.S. medical system, waiting on treatment is necessary, and is discouraging to the family.  Don will keep us informed of Chad's condition.

Thanks to those classmates that attended Frances memorial over the weekend.

Sorry, I was unable to attend due to a medical emergency in our family which turned out OK.

See you Wednesday.

Remembering Duane Harms.  Duane played a very important part in our class over the years, knowing we all realize.  He kept track of addresses, both home and emails.  Always helped with the planning and execution of class reunions with the exception of the past several due to his failing health.  His attitude was always positive and uplifting, being a man of God and a minister of God's Word!

Thanks Duane and your family for all you have done to make our lives and so many other prople's lives better!  RIP Buddy, we will miss you!

Obituary:
Duane Eugene Harms (Oct 5, 1944 to Feb 5, 2026)

Duane E. Harms, Age 81, of Woodbury, MN passed away peacefully on February 5, 2026.  He was the beloved husband of Carol Harms and loving father of three daughters Jennifer Hess (Erik), Lisa Dwyer (Mike) and Lori Harms.  He was also the adored grandfather of Kara Grace, Olivia and Brendan Hess.  He was a loving and loyal brother to Allan Harms (Carolyn) and Joan Dotson (Bill).  He was also an impactful uncle, cousin, neighbor, advisor and friend.

Duane was born to John and Gertrude Harms in Newton, Kansas.  He grew up in Augusta, KS where he graduated from high school and made lifelong friends.  He described his fondest childhood memory as deciding to follow Jesus as his savior at age 7.  He chose to study business administration in college but after attending a missions conference at Urbana was inspired to pursue a career in ministry.  Determined and with a focused vision in 1967, the Vietnam War still presented a barrier.  To avoid being drafted he enlisted in the Navy Reserves.  Initially seen as a detour, Duane later realized this was exactly the plan God had crafted.  Two phrases he would carry forward were “God is good, so good!”  and “God is faithful, always.”  His military service provided mentors and a focus to his mission of ministry.  The G.I. Bill enabled payment of his seminary education, and in his last years his military service provided an enormous blessing of community and ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) medical care at the VA Hospital.

After two years in the service, he began studies at Bethel Seminary.  He met his bride-to-be, Carol Harms, on a blind date while she was a nursing student.  He proposed 8 months later to begin 54 years of marriage, family building, hospitality and adventure.  After graduating seminary in 1971, Duane pastored in four churches, with Carol by his side (Cambridge, NE; Chicago, IL; Ortonville, MN). They raised three daughters who followed in faith and service.  In 1994, he made a move from his pastoral role.  He was able to combine his passion of spending time with people and supporting missions with his skills of accounting and finance working as Director of Church Relations for Converge and then later to coach missionaries in their support raising.

Duane lived his life guided by his values.  Strongest were faith, family, friendship and service.  He was a humble man who believed God gave him skills to use and placed people in front of him to bless.  He would happily share his faith when asked, but even more, loved to ask questions to hear how God was working in the lives of others.  His legacy and greatest joy was to reflect and share stories that would build faith in his family.  His love of the Lord and hope of a future in heaven guided his final days as his body was failing from ALS.  He claimed joy rather than fear.  He continued to talk to his Lord, praying for family and friends as he was awaiting the angel that would bring him home.  He would want us to honor his legacy holding onto the same faith, knowing that God walks with you.

Thanks to all that attended our first "Just Lunch" for 2026!  Today was a successful gathering, even though some of our "regulars" were unable to attend for good reasons.  We had some new classmates attend:  Bill Daigh, Don and Letha Huddleston, thanks for coming!  Other's attending:  Mike and Judy Cyphers, Louise Reimer, Trudy Jacobson, Bill and Lynda Johnson, Mike Howerter, and Tom Palmer.  Good food and good folks!  That's what you get when you come to "Just Lunch."

We will meet March 11, again at Sugar Shane.  I mentioned Judy Cyphers being with us today, after having BOTH shoulders replaced after a Nov. 2025 accident in her home.  She is looking great, considering what she has been through!  God Bless You Judy! Also, Bill Daigh is doing great after major surgery late last year.

It was great seeing him.

Don and Letha Huddleston needs our prayers concerning their son living in Japan.  He has been diagnosed with a tumer on his kidney.  Being a socialistic

medical system, the waiting to get something done is wearing on lthe family.  Don and Letha have plans to travel to Japan in the very near future.

February 6, 2026

Let's recap my posts in the past 24 hours!  First of all, I posted the wrong month.  February, instead of January!  Dah...While I was posting about the passing of Duane, Betty Brown sent me a message about the passing of Judy McCrea Burns.  I sent that message in an email only because I was in the process of emaiing the Blog link to all of you at that time.  Some of you probably didn't open that email, thinking it was a repeat of the blog link. So far in 2026, we have lost 3 of our classmates.  Not good

Frances Healy Payne, Jan. 11.  Funeral March 7

Judy McCrea Burns, Jan. 31,  Funeral ?

Duane Harms, Feb. 5, Funeral ?

Remember "Just Lunch" coming up next Wednesday.  These precious lives will be remembered for sure.

Very sad to report that Duane Harms passed this morning.  His daughter, Lisa Dwyer called to inform us that he died peacefully with family around him.

Let's say a prayer tonight for Carol and her family.  Services are pending at this time

I also want to report that Kent Morrison, recently had a stroke and is now in a rehab facility, helping him with his memory loss.  Include Kent and family in your prayers.

Thanks for reading,

Set aside Wednesday Feb. 11 at 11:30 A.M. for lunch at Sugar Shanes.  This will be our first "Just Lunch" for the year.  Let's make it a great event to start the New Year.

Diana will not be able to attend, having a doctor's appointment that she can't mss.  She has been struggling with a continous eye problem which she is trying to get solved.

There will be a memorial service for Frances Healy, March 7, at 10 A.M., at the Baptist Church in Augusta.

Thanks,

Tommy

January 10, 2026

It is with a heavy heart to inform you, that we lost Frances Turner Payne Healy yesterday!  All I know at this time is that she has been in the hospital and diagnosed with stomach cancer.  I don't know if she was home, or still in the hospital. When the obit comes out, I will share more news.

Frances was a great person and one of our "Just Lunch" attendees which we will greatly miss.  I was also honored to work with Frances at the Mobil Oil Refinery, along with her late husband, Cliff Healy.

We will not meet for "Just Lunch" next week, due to her passing.  I don't know any funeral arrangements yet, but our luncheon could interfere.  I don't think any of us will be in a great move either.

Later,

Tommy

Happy New Year classmates!  I hope all of you had a wonderful Christmas and Holiday Season!  It's a New Year and we will carry on with our monthly luncheons, beginning next Wednesday, January 14, at Sugar Shanes.  We will see how it goes.  We will discuss the future of our "Just Lunch" get-to-gathers.  Hope to see you all there!

Novemeber 15, 2025

A total of 8 met at David and Betty Corbins' on Wednesday, Nov. 12 for our annual Thanksgiving Feast!  Lowest attendance ever!  Those attending:  Trudy Jacobson, Louise Reimer, Mike Howerter, Tom Palmer, Bill and Lynda Johnson, and Betty and David Corbin.

Thanks to Betty and David for sharing their beautiful facility and also, to Lynda and Bill Johnson for preparing the turkey and dressing plus other dishes!  Thanks to Louise and Mike for making their 4 hr. round trip to attend.  Thanks to those that took time out of their busy life to attend and share their dishes.  David and Betty are in the middle of their holiday events which are an on-going daily routine which we interrupted.  We really appreciated you guys making time for us 6 people, thank you!

I realize some were ill and unable to attend.  We missed you.  On the other hand, we have some that I'm sure could have come, but chose otherwise.  An event such as this is too much work for some, and should be given a second thought before having again. Also, our classmates that travel 4 hours deserve our attendance and thoughtfulness!

The attendees chose to have January luncheon at Sugar Shanes.  If you want to have it, let me know, if not, we will give our luncheons a rest.  We don't meet in December due to all the family activities.  It's up to you whether we continue these events.  We all are busy and very easily choose to do other things.

Happy Thanksgiving!

November 2, 2025

Several things were brought to my attention in the past few days that I need to share with you:  Sandra Smith Peyton to undergo surgery tomorrow, Monday Nov. 3.

Judith Burns McCrea to have heart surgery this coming Tuesday, Nov. 4. Pray for them and all of our classmates that need our prayers and cards.  I know there are some that are not sharing their struggles and their current problems, that also need our prayers.  Pray for those classmates also.  I got a note from Ron Penland a few days ago and found out he had a knee replacement recently and will have his other knee replaced this coming January.  Routine can turn into havoc sometimes, remembering to offer a prayer for Ron and others we may not know about.

I have also updated our list of deceased classmates:  Complete List of Deceased

We have lost 51 of our classmates.  We are not quite at 50% yet, which is amazing, considering we are in our early 80s!  Keep the good health going!

Thanks for reading!

Featuring Duane Harms and Family

We all know about Duane's medical struggles for the past several years.  Duane is tough and very much a Godly man, being a retired minister!  His and Carol's attitudes are remarkable always positive.  Recently, we received the card below with a donation enclosed for our class fund.  Let's continue talking and praying for Duane and his wonderful family.  They are truly an inspiration for all of us to accept the current situations of our own lives and share our struggles with God for a positive outcome!

Thanks Duane for everything you have done for our class, especially the communications and reunion plans in the past.  Thanks for making our class one of the best classes to ever graduate from AHS!  God Bless you and your wonderful family!

I know we send cards every month, however, it would be special for Duane if you sent an individual card, just from you!

Remember our Thanksgiving Feast coming November 12, 11:30 AM, at David and Betty Corbins!  See you all there!
